Part of the Sentimientos y Apegos (Feelings and Attachments) series, Memory Bundle in Orange by David Ordoñez Lacayo is a sculptural meditation on identity, heritage, and the intimate weight of memory. At its center is a tightly bound tanate, a fabric-wrapped bundle referencing traditional Guatemalan carrying cloths. This version features a bold orange textile with visible woven patterns and the artist’s own signature hand-inscribed on the surface — reinforcing the personal and emotional narrative.
Surrounding the knotted top are a circle of hand-sculpted birds in vibrant colors and varied postures, their polychrome finishes adding dimensional contrast to the soft texture of the cloth. As if perched protectively around memory itself, these birds symbolize guardianship, transformation, and the cultural continuity passed through generations.
