David Ordoñez Lacayo
Codex Walk
In Codex Walk, David Ordoñez Lacayo continues his sculptural exploration of the shoe as both artifact and narrative surface. This piece features a radiant textile-inspired palette, woven in bright lines of red, purple, green, and gold — a chromatic spectrum drawn from Guatemalan highland tradition. Layered across the surface are embossed metallic forms that reference insects, birds, and ancient hieroglyphs, turning the shoe into a living codex of motion and memory.
Every section of the shoe is activated by these symbolic shapes — some abstract, others iconographic. The balance between vivid color and cold metallic relief draws attention to both the past and the present: traditional weaving and modern commentary, ornament and burden. Codex Walk is not just about movement — it’s about cultural navigation.
