“Voices of the Andes” – Large Natural Gour
Organic and intricately detailed, Voices of the Andes is a hand-carved gourd by Tito Medina, created in the traditional technique of Cochas Chico, Peru. The surface is fully engraved with fine narrative scenes — a village life tableau with dancers, musicians, birds, and mountain flora — all wrapped around the natural curves of the gourd like a visual song. Each line is burned into the shell using a heated chisel, a method known as pyro-engraving, which requires both steady craftsmanship and cultural knowledge. The earthy tones of the natural gourd give the piece warmth, while the storytelling etched into its surface gives it life. This is more than decoration — it’s a vessel of Andean identity, meant to be held, explored, and appreciated from every angle.
