Life Under the Sky by Tito Medina is an immersive storytelling vessel, where every surface detail reveals a deeper layer of meaning. Divided by a zigzag ridge representing the mountains of the Andes, the gourd is etched with scenes of everyday labor and shared rituals — families sowing the land, carrying bundles, and moving through dense landscapes teeming with foliage and harvest.
Above the jagged horizon line, birds and spirits fill the sky, suggesting a world that is both visible and unseen — a delicate interplay of nature and mysticism. At the crown of the gourd is a sun-like emblem flanked by guardian motifs, crowning the scene with sacred symmetry. Below, finely carved homes hint at continuity and rootedness, bringing the story full circle.
